Famoso (4th st)

If you have no idea what the deal is, start HERE

I had meant to review this place a loooong time ago, but it took me three tries to remember to take a picture of my food. So here we go!

Famoso(thin crust pizza, sandwiches, soup and salad)
4th street (Mission District)
Delivery Fee:$5.99 Price:$$***

Famoso is a Canadian chain that specializes in Neopolitan pizza, meaning it's thin crust, fresh ingredients, and on the fancier side of Pizza 73. Being lactose intolerant, I don't go in for the pizza, but for their Fire Bread sandwiches, which I get sans cheese. I've never really had an issue with that, and one location even phoned to inform me that the salad I had chosen was loaded with cheese. So I'm pretty safe with these guys.

The Wiseguy Sandwich (Italian Ham, spicy salami, prosciutto, spicy veggie spread and usually provolone) $14.25 (with side salad)

Oh helloooooo
I LOVE this sandwich. It's a touch greasy, and full of meat, which are two things bound to please me. It's also kind of spicy, and whatever veggie spread they're using is AMAZING. It's the kind of spread I would eat on everything for 2 weeks straight. While I'm sure having the provolone on it would add to the flavour, I'm perfectly happy with this cheeseless sandwich.

I didn't take any pictures of the salad( because it was a salad) so straight on to my favourite course, DESSERT

Nutella Pizza(Pizza dough folded calzone style with Nutella stuffed into it. Optional bananas) $9.25

Baby you're all that I want
I'm lucky I ever got a picture of this thing, because the first two times I ordered it, it was inhaled within 30 seconds of the door being closed. What can I say about it? It's got Nutella and bananas baked inside a sweet little dough cocoon. In addition, some (but not all) locations will send caramel sauce on the side with it. YUM.

If you haven't been to a Famoso, then you're probably not from Canada, or you hate pizza. It's a fancy feast for folks who are tired of the $5 Little Ceasar's deal, and I'm probably gonna order at least 3 more of those Nutella pizzas. However, they are a bit pricey to eat from a lot, and every location does things just a touch different, so be sure to ask about substitutions and the like. But they never forget to take the cheese off my meal, and that's good enough for me.  7/10

Happy Eating!

MARKET Restaurant

If you're a bit lost, start  HERE I'm back! This summer has been a hurricane of fun, and with that hurricane blew in some AMAZING food. One of my favourite discoveries of the summer has been MARKET Restaurant! MARKET Restaurant 17th Ave SW Calgary, Alberta $$$** Even thought it's situated right on the busy 17th Ave thoroughfare, MARKET feels like a hidden gem. It's focus on local, sustainable food and in-house preparation makes it one of the most wholesome dining experiences I've had yet. They make their own cheese, cure their own meats, and harvest from their own internal garden to craft some incredible dishes.  The neat thing is that none of this is apparent unless you go looking for it. From their social media presence to their waitstaff (who are amazing), the focus seems to be on the food itself, with the story and philosophy of it's sustainable initiatives only coming in on the official website for the restaurant.  BUT ANYWAYS The...

Hey There!

Welcome to Tall, Blonde, and Hungry. Lets get to know each other. I'm Jayme. I'm tall, blonde, and very hungry. I moved to Calgary in August of 2016, and I relished being able to eat at so many amazing places. I have a great joy for good food, and being in Calgary has fed that joy (and hunger) tenfold. As a lactose intolerant, hungry hungry hippo, I believe that food is one of the great joys in life. The flavours, the textures, the simple joy from a good meal is one of the best feelings in the world. I want nothing more than to share that feeling with as many people as possible, be that friends, family or you. Yes you! So join me while I eat my way through YYC, one dairy free bite at a time. Happy eating! Jayme

Portland Part I

If you're a bit lost, start  HERE Over the summer, I was supposed to do a lot of things. I was supposed to climb a mountain (yeah right), work on my writing (ditto), and go to a music festival. The music festival plan went 10 types of sideways, so instead I went to Portland for 4 days to eat my way through America's hipster capital. LET ME TELL YOU I did not want to come home. I may have cried a little upon liftoff. But before all the sadness and goodbyes, I managed to enjoy the city throughly. Rolling in on a balmy August Wednesday, the city welcomed me with open arms. The first thing I noticed about downtown Portland was that the transit system was way better than back home. (thanks Calgary) The second thing I noticed was the food carts.  In a handful of strategic spots downtown, Portland has given an entire city block over to various food carts. I'm talking tacos, shawarma, donair, kebobs, fried chicken, ramen, paleo BBQ, sushi, Cajun cuisine, donuts...
